BMW E30 M3, another peek.

Okay, while still not the finished BMW as I am waiting to hear from the judges....
I did decide to take a quick picture of some of what was left at the end of the project.....

Took a little bit of work, lots of sanding, grinding, cutting, fitting, and shaping....

BMW E30 M3

So there is another blog that I follow about Hotwheels, Matchbox and various other diecast car companies.
They recent put out a challenge to create a custom BMW E30 M3 from the recent Hotwheels casting.

Seen here is the original.

I just submitted my pictures for the contest.
They have released what the prizes are going to be, but the judging is supposed to start soon.
So this is just a teaser.....

I'll post pictures of my completed version shortly.

I'm rather proud of how it turned our. Tried doing a couple of things I had never tried before...

Tyrell P34 the 6 Wheeled F1 car

Considered by many to be one of the most recognizable designs in the history of motorsports.
While only considered to be "marginally successful" the design did achieve a 1-2 finish for the two cars entered in the 1976 Swedish Gran Prix.

Unfortunately, the tire manufacturer was not able to keep pace with the advances in tire technology given the fact that only two cars on the entire starting grid were using the small front tires. The development  budget was being used on tires that were "more standard" to the rest of the field.

By the end of the season the car was becoming less and less competitive as the tires improved for the rest of the field.

The few examples of these cars that survive are crowd favorites wherever they show up. Whether at a show, or a vintage Gran Prix race.

Another one out from storage

So we actually got a little bit of sunlight here today in the middle of winter, and thought I might take a few pictures of older builds that are collecting dust in the display cabinets.

Here's one that the picture turned out pretty well, and it looks like I got most of the dust off of it.

The good ole' General Lee Charger from the Dukes of Hazzard Series.

All in all, it was a good kit. The front push-bar looks out of scale to my eye, and was a real pain to get it to attach to the lower front valance area.

Also, the roll bar looks to be too big to me, and sits a little lower in the window opening than I would like.
It was a pretty quick build, and probably could have adjusted it.

Still needs the big whip antenna for the CB radio, must have missed that somehow.
