Fujimi Ferrari F40LM - I'm back

 Back for my seemingly once a year post.

We'll throw a couple of models that I have completed in the past several months all up for kind of a "Year End" post.

First up is Fujimi's Ferrari F40 with the LeMans parts (hence the F40LM designation).

Love the way this one came out, and had been watching for a decent price on this kit for a number of years.

Comes with some really great looking wheels. Updated rear spoiler elements and a giant front splitter.

Of course this one had to be red... 

Haven't done many Ferraris that have ended up being red.

Really excited about the way this one finished up.

Lots of really nice details. Seemed to take forever, but wanted to take my time with this one.

Tamiya Ferrari 360 Spyder

 So looking back and finding my blog again, I didn't realize it has been 5 years since my last post, and decided that I have plenty that I have built and might be time to work at sharing some of my builds again.

This is a Tamiya Ferrari 360 Spyder.

I love the looks of a Ferrari, but decided I wanted to do this one in something other than RED.

 

 

This is a bit older kit, but still shows all the great attention to detail that you would come to expect in a kit from Tamiya.

I had a can of the light blue paint, and thought it would look nice on the curvy shape of the Italian exotic.

The top is a separate piece and can be removed to show off the interior. I painted the top with a dark blue... but didn't like the way it turned out.  So I used a can of Tamiya "Smoke" which is a transparent grey color (think a window tint) and sprayed that from a distance. It gave a speckled or mottled effect which looks more convincing as a cloth top, than just plain dark blue.

 

 

From the rear you get a good view of the nice looking Ferrari V8 in the back under the clear cover.

I was very happy with the way that this one turned out, and would gladly consider doing another one of these for the collection.

Ferrari 288 GTO Finished

So after a couple of "false starts" on this enthusiast series kit from Fujimi, I finally managed to convince myself to put in the time to finish this one, and I am glad that I did.

This one of my favorite Ferraris of all time, and one that nearly didn't happen.

The car was originally designed to be a purely race car, intended for the Group B in World Rally. The requirement was to build 200 cars to meet the homologation requirements.
Just as Ferrari began producing the cars, the Group B was cancelled all together, leaving all 272 examples as purely street cars. (Though several have gone on to successful racing careers).

In Ferrari's naming system, this car features a 2.8 Liter, 8 Cylinder engine. Fitted with twin turbo-chargers, it creates nearly 400 horsepower.

It however is a successor, not predecessor to the 308 series of Ferraris.

If you are familiar with the 308 cars, (made famous here by Magnum PI), you can see the resemblance. But changes in suspension and engine layout makes the 288 a bit wider, and a bit longer in the wheelbase than the 308.

Considered by some to be one of Ferrari's first supercars, and a direct predecessor to the Ferrari F40.

Sculpted and shaped body panels by the famous Pinifarina design house, I just can't get over how gorgeous this car looks. Especially for one intended as a purely race driven car.

This one definitely fills a spot in my Ferrari collection, and am glad to have it done and in the display case.
I am also glad to have a little breathing room at work to where I can get back to my hobbies, and sharing them.
